Question by race_car_bed: What company offers laptops that come with the least amount of preinstalled useless software?
I want a pretty stripped down machine. I don’t want any extras. Are there any companies that sell laptops like this?

Also, do any companies include the operating system disk separately? For example, if I need to format, I don’t want all of the preinstalled garbage on the clean install. Thanks.

^Companies like Hewlett Packard and Dell will build a laptop for you to your specifications, they can be pricey and you have to call the company to order, you can check retail stores, but I’ve never seen it offered in the stores.

You can check out their websites below.Good luck, I hope you find what you’re looking for.

HP is really good about keeping the extras to a minimum. If you customize a HP/Compaq pc at hp.shopping.com then you get to choose what software you want included in your system. But what does come pre-installed is the HP Updates Program, HP Image Zone, all the HP Printer Drivers, and a 60-Day trial of Office 2007. Hope this helps! (Also, they don’t come with a seperate OS installation disk, but you can create recovery DVDs or CDs and there is a portion of your hard drive taken away for Recovery purposes.)

The Dell Vostro line is pretty much no frills.
